Shuklambaradharam Vishnum Shlok

Remove the obstacles in your path.

शुक्लाम्बरधरं विष्णुं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजम्।
प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये॥

Śuklāmbara-dharaṁ viṣṇuṁ śaśi-varṇaṁ catur-bhujam।
Prasanna-vadanaṁ dhyāyet sarva-vighnopaśāntaye॥

I meditate upon Lord Vishnu, who is dressed in white garments, radiant like the moon, with four arms and a peaceful countenance, to remove all obstacles.

Let us understand the meaning of the shlok

  • Śuklāmbara-dharaṁ: This refers to Lord Vishnu, who is dressed in white clothes (śukla meaning white). White represents purity, peace, and auspiciousness.

  • Śaśi-varṇaṁ: Śaśi refers to the moon, and varṇaṁ means color. Lord Vishnu is depicted as having a radiant, moon-like glow, symbolizing calmness and serenity.

  • Catur-bhujam: This describes Vishnu's four arms, which carry a conch, discus, mace, and lotus. Each of these objects has deep symbolic meaning, representing divine powers of creation, preservation, and destruction.

  • Prasanna-vadanaṁ: With a peaceful and content expression on His face, Lord Vishnu represents the embodiment of inner peace and compassion.

  • Sarva-vighnopaśāntaye: This part means "for the removal of all obstacles." By meditating on Lord Vishnu, it is believed that all difficulties and challenges will dissolve, allowing the devotee to move forward smoothly.

This shlok is often recited before starting any important task or endeavor, seeking divine blessings to clear the path of obstacles and bring success.

Three easy ways to integrate this shlok in your daily lives

  • Before Beginning Important Work: Whether it’s starting a new project, studying, or making an important decision, recite this shlok to invite Lord Vishnu’s energy to guide and protect you. His peaceful and calm demeanor can help you approach tasks with clarity and ease.

  • Morning Meditation: Sit quietly in the morning, visualizing Lord Vishnu in His white garments, radiating peace and light. As you meditate on Him, let go of any worries or stress, allowing His presence to clear your mind and heart of obstacles.

  • Action Step: Write this shlok down and place it somewhere visible—on your desk, in your car, or near your workspace. Use it as a reminder to approach every challenge with calm and trust in divine protection.

Good to know…

Lord Vishnu’s four arms symbolize His all-encompassing power over the universe. The conch (Shankha) represents the sound of creation, the discus (Chakra) symbolizes the mind, the mace (Gada) signifies strength, and the lotus (Padma) stands for purity and spiritual enlightenment. By meditating on these symbols, you can invoke their energies into your life—creation, clarity, strength, and purity.

Take a moment to reflect…

How could starting your day with the image of Lord Vishnu—calm, radiant, and powerful— help you overcome obstacles and challenges?
