Seek wisdom with devotion and gratitude
This shlok recognizes Saraswati as the divine source of all learning and beauty
सरस्वति महाभागे विद्ये कमललोचने।
विद्यारूपे विशालाक्षि विद्यां देहि नमोऽस्तुते॥
Sarasvati mahābhāge vidye kamala-locane।
Vidyā-rūpe viśālākṣi vidyāṁ dehi namo’stu te॥
O Saraswati, the most glorious and revered one, O embodiment of knowledge
with lotus-like eyes,
O broad-eyed goddess who takes the form of wisdom—grant me knowledge.
Salutations to you.
Let us understand the meaning of the shlok
Sarasvati: Saraswati is the goddess of learning, wisdom, and arts, and this invocation seeks her divine grace to receive knowledge and enlightenment.
Mahābhāge: This term means "the most fortunate or glorious one." It expresses deep reverence for Saraswati as the source of all learning and creative energy.
Vidye: Vidya means knowledge or education. In this context, Saraswati is directly addressed as the personification of all knowledge.
Kamala-locane: Kamala means "lotus," and locane refers to "eyes." Saraswati’s lotus-like eyes symbolize purity, detachment, and divine beauty. The lotus, though rooted in mud, blooms untouched by it, signifying wisdom untainted by worldly distractions.
Vidyā-rūpe: Saraswati is described as taking the very form of knowledge. This emphasizes that she embodies the essence of learning and wisdom in every sense.
Viśālākṣi: Viśāla means "broad," and ākṣi refers to "eyes." Saraswati’s wide, compassionate gaze symbolizes clarity of vision and insight, helping her devotees see beyond ignorance and illusions.
Vidyāṁ Dehi Namo'stu Te: This is a humble plea to Saraswati to bestow knowledge upon the devotee. Namo'stu te means "I offer my salutations to you," expressing gratitude and reverence.
This shlok captures the devotee’s longing for knowledge, wisdom, and clarity, recognizing Saraswati as the divine source of all learning and beauty.

Good to know…
