A Salutation to Lord Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles
This shlok is a heartfelt invocation of Lord Ganesha, the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and the remover of obstacles.
गजाननं भूतगणादि सेवितं
कपित्थजम्बूफलसार भक्षितम्।
उमासुतं शोकविनाशकारणं
नमामि विघ्नेश्वर पादपङ्कजम्॥
Gajānanam bhūta-gaṇādi-sevitam
Kapitta-jambū-phala-sāra-bhakṣitam।
Umāsutam śoka-vināśa-kāraṇam
Namāmi vighneśvara pāda-paṅkajam॥
I bow to Lord Ganesha, the elephant-faced one, worshipped by celestial beings and spirits alike. He relishes the essence of wood apples and jambu fruits. The beloved son of Goddess Uma, He is the destroyer of sorrows and the remover of obstacles. I offer my salutations at His lotus feet.
🕉️ Let us understand the meaning of the shlok
गजाननं (Gajānanam): The one with an elephant face, symbolizing immense wisdom and strength.
भूतगणादि सेवितं (Bhūta-gaṇādi-sevitam): Revered by bhūtas (celestial beings and attendants), emphasizing His divine status.
कपित्थजम्बूफलसार भक्षितम् (Kapitta-jambū-phala-sāra-bhakṣitam): He delights in the essence of kapitta (wood apple) and jambū (rose apple) fruits, symbolic of offerings and devotion.
उमासुतं (Umāsutam): The son of Uma (Goddess Parvati), underscoring His familial divine heritage.
शोकविनाशकारणं (Śoka-vināśa-kāraṇam): The cause of the destruction of sorrows, reminding devotees of His compassionate nature.
नमामि विघ्नेश्वर पादपङ्कजम् (Namāmi Vighneśvara pāda-paṅkajam): Salutations to the lotus feet of Lord Vighneśvara (remover of obstacles), signifying humility and surrender.

💡 Good to know…
This shlok reveals a lesser-known aspect through its mention of specific fruits - kapittha (wood apple) and jambu (rose apple).
These fruits hold deep symbolic meaning in ancient texts.
The kapittha represents the hard exterior of life's challenges that must be cracked to reach the sweet essence within, while the jambu fruit symbolizes the sweetness of spiritual knowledge.
This symbolism teaches that obstacles aren't just barriers to be removed, but opportunities for growth that contain hidden wisdom.
The shlok also uniquely positions Ganesha as "भूतगणादि सेवितं" (worshipped by celestial beings), suggesting that even divine beings seek his blessings before undertaking important tasks.
